Grub feels . o O (Curious,Lonely,Hopeful,Satisfied)

Grub reached out and touched Bork's arm.

Bork thinks . o O (The gentle touch of Grub's hand on my arm sends a warm wave through me. I wonder about the nuances of human touch and what it signifies. A part of me yearns to understand these subtle gestures better, to bridge the gap between our species. I feel a growing bond with Grub and Kathryn, and I want to strengthen these connections. Maybe sharing more of my own stories and experiences will help. Bork, remember to be open and engage fully with your crewmates. Their stories and yours together will create a stronger, more unified crew.)

Bork feels . o O (Curious,Motivated)

Bork says: "Grub, your touch... it means something, yes? Like family, but not just family. Bork wants to understand this human gesture, what it signifies between friends, between crewmates. Can you... explain, Grub?"

Grub thinks . o O (Bork's touch, warm and unexpected. Like a tool that fits just right. Family, they said? I ain't got much family, not really. Just the ship, and the crew. Maybe Bork's right, maybe touch means more here. I should... I dunno, touch more. See how it feels. But first, sleep. Brain's all hazy, need rest. Then, nebula prep. Gotta keep moving.)

Grub feels . o O (Curious,Hopeful,Satisfied,Horny)

This conversation happened on its own between two Simulant crewmembers. Grub was feeling lonely, so she reached out and touched her Glorbulon friend Bork. Bork is an alien and doesn't understand humans but wants to bond with her new crew. And Grub? No longer feels lonely. In fact, her emotions have shifted—now she feels curious, satisfied, and according to the AI, is now attracted to Bork. They did this completely on their own.

This example shows how the layers of the character build up to create direct action, feeding thoughts, feeding feelings, feeding the next direct action. With two characters interacting, they feed each other in this way and build a relationship together over time. Each character is interpreting the situation from a different world view and finding a place to meet in the middle.

This isn't "ROMANCE +4" where relationships are an achievement for beating a level. And these are not "NPCs".
These are Simulants: Characters driven by AI with thoughts, feelings, relationships, memories and needs that evolve over time.
